When you reach Santiago de Compostela and have completed the Camino de Santiago you are awarded a certificate. I collected mine – it was an emotional moment. I also went into the cathedral – the incense chandelier was there swinging like a ticking clock.
But my journey did not end here for I chose to continue to Finisterre on the coast, some 100 km further on; where the body of St James (Santiago) came ashore. Here I was awarded another certificate. We took off our boots my friend and I, and stepped into the sea – at our journey’s end. I also have the wallet with all of my stamps obtained along the way. When I returned home my father framed them for me.
