The Cinque Terre, or Five Lands, are a string of 5 medieval fishing villages perched on the steep mountainside of the Ligurian coastline. The villages are part of a national park, and the surrounding area is defined by steep terraced vineyards and gardens chiselled into the side of the mountain. Windy footpaths connects the villages of Monterosso, Vernaza, Manarola, Corniglia & Riomaggiore, and is still the best way to visit the Italian Riviera.

Until not long ago the only way to access the villages was either by boat or by train on the 19th-century railway line cut through a series of coastal tunnels.

The Cinque Terre are a feast for the eyes. The shear beauty of the the dramatic coastline and the colourful villages is unique to this corner of the world. The food is exquisite and authentic, freshly caught fish is part of every meal, and the local wines are perfect to accompany it!
