Before the tour starts, we recommend you spend a few days in Milan.

We meet at Milan Malpensa Airport at 13:00 and drive to our hotel in the centre of Torino.

After time to check in and refresh, we head out to explore the city, enjoy an aperitif in one of the grand piazzas, and stop for our welcome dinner in one of Torino’s most iconic restaurants—a true culinary institution.

Meals: Dinner
Overnight: Torino

Our day begins with a guided tour of Torino’s Egyptian Museum home to a rare collection that rivals those found in Egypt itself. Afterwards, we immerse ourselves in the local lifestyle with a walk through the city’s vibrant open-air market. We enjoy lunch at the market stalls, tasting fresh, seasonal specialties. The afternoon is spent further exploring the city’s hidden gems and grand boulevards before we head out for another dinner in the heart of Turin.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Torino

We leave Torino for the town of Bra, where the Slow Food movement began. We arrive for the famous “Bra Cheese” festival—the largest of its kind in the world—to meet producers and learn about the cheese-making process around the world. For lunch, we are welcomed into a private kitchen for a hands-on cooking class. We will be introduced to the secrets of the region’s specialities, such as the delicate ravioli al plin.

In the afternoon, we head to an elegant wine estate nestled among the vineyards, our home for the next three nights, to relax and enjoy dinner paired with the estate’s own wines.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Le Langhe

Today is dedicated to Barolo, namesake of one of the world’s finest wines. We stop first in enchanting La Morra for the most incredible panoramic views the region has to offer. In Barolo, we visit the castle and its wine museum for a journey through the history of winemaking. In the afternoon, we visit a local, family-owned winery for an intimate tour of their cellars and a tasting of their prestigious labels.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: Le Langhe

We spend our morning in the forest with a local expert hunter and his dog, learning the secrets of the “white gold” on a private truffle hunt. Following the hunt, we enjoy a delicious truffle brunch prepared by our host. In the afternoon, we head to the village of Barbaresco to visit its iconic medieval tower, which offers commanding views over the surrounding vineyards. We end our day in the town of Alba, famous for its towers and elegant shops, where the evening is yours to explore the historic streets and enjoy dinner at your own pace.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Overnight: Le Langhe

We bid farewell to the Langhe and travel into the ruggedly beautiful Monferrato region, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our morning takes us to the village of Cella Monte, built entirely of stone, where we visit an Infernot, unique, hand-carved underground wine cellars hidden beneath the houses.

After a picnic lunch, we head to the elegant town of Casale Monferrato. No visit here is complete without a stop to taste the famous Krumiri biscuits—a local sweet treat famously shaped like the moustache of King Victor Emmanuel II. In the evening, we travel north to reach the enchanting shores of Lake Orta.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Lake Orta

We dedicate today to the quiet beauty of Orta San Giulio, often called one of Italy’s most enchanting villages. Its timeless atmosphere has long been a sanctuary for creative minds, including Flaubert and Tchaikovsky. We begin our day with an easy stroll around the ancient chapels of the Sacred Mountain, a mystic sanctuary overlooking the town. After lunch, we take a boat to Isola San Giulio to explore the tiny island at the centre of the lake.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Overnight: Lake Orta

We head to the shores of Lake Maggiore to spend a morning in the elegant town of Stresa, where you can enjoy a gentle stroll along its grand lakeside promenade. We then board a private boat for an excursion to Isola Bella, literally named “Beautiful Island,” to explore the baroque masterpiece of the Borromeo Palace and its spectacular hanging gardens. Our final stop is the charming Isola dei Pescatori. Tonight is a special treat; we leave the crowds behind to stay on the island itself, enjoying our final farewell dinner as the sun sets over the water and we settle in for a magical overnight stay on the lake.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Lake Maggiore

After breakfast a boat whisks us back to the main land and we depart for Milan Malpensa Airport where we say our farewells.

FAQs

Our most popular Questions and Answers about PIEMONTE cooking TOUR and our Small Group Tours.

This tour is a true feast for the senses and a deep dive into the heart of Italy’s culinary soul. We take you on a spectacular journey from the elegant, chocolate-filled arcades of Torino to the UNESCO-listed vineyards of Le Langhe and the tranquil beauty of the Italian Lakes. What sets this experience apart is the exclusive access to regional secrets: you will hunt for white truffles with a local expert, master authentic recipes in a private cooking class, and sip prestigious Barolo and Barbaresco wines in the very cellars where they are aged. It is a unique celebration of the Slow Food movement, ending with a breathtaking finale on the enchanted islands of Lake Maggiore.

We meet at 13:00 on Day 1 at Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP). Our team will be there to greet you before we drive to our first hotel in the historic centre of Torino.

For international travellers arriving from the US, Canada, or Australia, the most convenient gateway is Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP).

  • Arrival for the Tour: Since our official meeting point is at the airport at 13:00, you can fly directly into Malpensa on the morning of Day 1.
  • Arriving Early: If you choose to arrive a few days early (which we highly recommend), you can take the Malpensa Express train to Milano Centrale and spen a few days in the city.

We highly recommend arriving 1–2 days early to adjust to the time zone before meeting the group at the airport.

  • Which District: For a central and vibrant experience, we recommend staying in the Brera District, known for its artistic atmosphere and charming narrow streets, or the Duomo District to be in the heart of the city’s historic grandeur.
  • What to See: Milan is a world capital of fashion and history. We suggest visiting the iconic Duomo di Milano, exploring the glass-vaulted Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, or viewing Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper (ensure you book tickets months in advance). For a relaxing afternoon, stroll through the Sempione Park or enjoy an aperitivo along the Navigli canals.

This tour is rated Leisurely and is designed with a focus on culture and cuisine, making it more accessible than our hiking programmes.

  • Activity Level: You should be comfortable with leisurely city walks on cobblestones, gentle strolls through vineyard tracks, and easy explorations of lakeside villages.
  • Terrain: Expect a mix of elegant city pavements in Torino, uneven paths during the truffle hunt in the forest, and some slight inclines in the hilltop villages of Le Langhe.

Piemonte is the gastronomic capital of Italy and the birthplace of the Slow Food movement.

  • Local Specialities: You will enjoy iconic dishes like ravioli al plin, fresh seasonal truffles, and world-renowned Bra cheese. In Casale Monferrato, we even stop to taste Krumiri biscuits, famously shaped like a royal moustache.
  • The Wine: This region is home to “The King of Wines.” You will enjoy intimate tastings of Barolo and Barbaresco in family-run cellars.
  • Dining: Experiences range from vibrant market lunches to dinners in iconic culinary institutions.

We have hand-picked a collection of locally-owned, high-quality hotels that reflect the elegance of the region. You will stay in:

  • An elegant hotel in the heart of Torino.
  • An elegant wine estate nestled directly among the UNESCO vineyards of Le Langhe.
  • A tranquil retreat on the shores of Lake Orta.
  • A magical overnight stay on Isola dei Pescatori in Lake Maggiore, where you can enjoy the serenity of the lake after the day-trippers have departed.

We schedule our departures during the prime “flavour” season: September/October.

  • Autumn (September/October): This is the ultimate time for food lovers. It coincides with the white truffle hunt and the famous Bra Cheese festival, the largest of its kind in the world. The autumn light over the Monferrato hills is truly spectacular.
  • Footwear: Because we spend a great deal of time on our feet exploring historic town centres, grand piazzas, and vibrant markets, comfortable footwear for all-day standing is essential. We recommend supportive walking shoes that can handle cobblestones and gentle village paths.
  • Clothing: We recommend a layering system. The mornings near the lakes or in the forest can be fresh, while afternoons are often warm.
  • Evening Wear: The atmosphere at our dinners is “smart casual”. You’ll want something slightly dressier for our welcome dinner in Torino or our farewell feast on the island.
  • Essentials: A small day pack for water and a camera, a waterproof jacket, and a sun hat.
