Travel Tips

Caspin Journeys, always at the ready!

WHAT TO BRING AND HOW TO FIT IT ALL IN?

Travel in your boots - carry a pair of slippers to wear on the plane - you will have more room in your case.

Earplugs can be useful, especially if using city hotels where church bells or traffic may be a nuisance.

Small umbrella for rain and shine protection.

Medicines you know are always more comforting, so it is worth bringing a small supply of your favourite cures!

RECOMMENDED CLOTHING

  • Hiking boots/thick soled or ankle supporting shoes
  • Socks, woollen or cotton, several pairs
  • Thermal/silk undershirt (useful if you feel the cold)
  • Shorts, zip-offs or trousers comfortable for walking
  • Shirts and T-shirts
  • Sweaters
  • Sun/Rain hat
  • Waterproof anorak
  • Washing kit, medications etc.
  • Underwear and nightwear
  • Training shoes
  • Casual change of clothes and shoes for the evenings
  • Men - jacket is optional NOT REQUIRED
  • Swimwear (you never know when you might want it)

HOW TO AVOID LOST LUGGAGE?

To avoid inconvenience in the event of your luggage being misrouted, we recommend that you carry onto the plane your washing kit and medications, a change of clothes, walking boots and day pack.

CAN I DRINK THE WATER?

YES! Water in Europe is drinkable unless it says otherwise, but if you are sensitive you may wish to drink bottled water.

VARIABLE WEATHER

We do try to avoid extreme temperatures, but the sun may be hot, or the wind may be cold so make sure you drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and wear a hat and or jacket. A good idea is to adopt a layering system, with a light sweat wicking shirt as a base and a variable mid layer to act as light insulation (a fleece, pullover, or vest) and an outer layer such as a waterproof or insulated jacket for rain and cold.

WALKING BOOT ADVICE

The most valuable tool for a walking tour is a good pair of boots. If your feet are sore, then your humour will be too! Please choose your footwear carefully. DO NOT bring a brand new pair of boots that have never been worn. DO NOT wear tennis shoes on stony and slippery paths, through puddles and mud. Buy shoes in which YOU feel comfortable. Try on several types before purchasing. Do not let aesthetics rule sense 😉

LIMIT YOUR LUGGAGE

Please consider the safety of your and our backs and travel lightly. Many European hotels are in old buildings and do not have elevators. Stations do not have escalators so do be prepared to carry cases up and down stairs. For the safety of our backs, we reserve the right to refuse to carry unduly heavy cases up to the bedrooms.

OUR LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE

1 MEDIUM CASE (60cm x 40cm x 30cm) + 1 DAY PACK (40cm x 30cm x 15cm)

We have limited space in the minibus. Please don’t exceed these limits. Remember, you will have to carry your luggage up and down stairs! Do pack carefully for the sake of your arms and ours; it is amazing what you can do without!
